Recently, THE SAFARI, 2013 shoot was held at Alice Springs, hosted by the Dead Centre Bowhunters Club.
The heat was so dam hot for the first two days, holding around the 44 degrees. The Manning members have never felt heat like it before. For the next three days it rained a little bring the temperature down a slightly. When the rain stopped, the two days left to shoot, went back up but no as hot as before.
It was said, the Alice rangers were very challenging. A couple of the ranges were very rocky, leaving shooters with a few broken arrows. A pair of 4X4 boots would have come in handy.
Twenty plus local prisoners were on work release to helped set up the ranges and many other things that needed doing. They called their prison guard, uncle. The shooters showed their appreciation, by shaking hands with the prisoners for all their help.
One of our funny, (ha ha), members and his son, found themselves a pet spider while they where at Alice. They were fating it up with lizards and cockroach’s. When they left, the spider had to go back to its old ways, under protest.
The clubs vice president had his bow blow up. Thinking that was the end of his shoot, three or four shooters from other clubs, offered to lend him their spare bows and was able to finish. He appreciated their kindness very much and would like to say thank you.
One of our lady shooters miss a 3D target, when she went to get her arrows, she gave the paper animal target a kick. This made her feel a little better.
Some members went to a local restaurant and ate camel, roo, goat and croc. They, said, it wasn’t too bad.
The canteen at the shoot served delicious meals. The Manning District Bowhunters would like thank the Dead Centre Bowhunters club for holding a very well organized event.
We had twelve shooters from our club attend and they did very well.
