ABA’s first invitation shoot for the year was held at Mannning Great Lakes Archers on the 14th and 15th of March with 121 shooters turning up for muster on the Saturday morning with 32 being our own archers.
With such a large roll up 3 ranges were opened up and the starters horn was blown, with the weather being hot and sunny we headed off to begin what was to be a great weekend with some very fierce competition between several individual archers, clubs and some great friends.
With the first round over all archers gathered for a quick lunch and to compare scores and the one that got away kind of stories and then headed off again for the next round changing onto a different range. None of us were prepared for the afternoon that was to follow with the sun shining we set out, but by the time we got to the 4th last target rain had begun falling and by the 2nd last target the sky had opened up and torrential rain was bucketing down making shooting very difficult but challenging especially for our younger shooters and those of us who were dealing with the leaches that just love damp conditions and a free meals on wheels, All archers came back into camp looking like we were hosting a wet tee-shirt competition.
Hot showers for all and a great meal from the canteen and we settled down to a night of fun and laughs with the novelty shoot and some knife and axe throwing and plenty of tall tales.
Sunday started nice and early with an 8.30 muster, a change of range and a 2 arrow round being shot in hot and muggy conditions this found us being challenged once again on another difficult range with no archer getting the perfect score of 400.
